After months of R&D I've finally come up with my recipe for a set of "Number One" Strat pickups, modeled after the pickups in Stevie Ray Vaughn's favorite guitar. I'm very excited about the results. My design was taken from readings and measurements taken by his techs long ago, which disprove the "mistakenly overwound pickup myth". We've all tried to get his tone with the machine/overwound pickups the big companies slap a fancy name on - they are just plain off the mark. My "Number One" sets are exact recreations of the late 50's tone - and my sets are calibrated the same way Number One's were, and most Strat's were in the day: slightly stronger in the neck than in the bridge.
